The First Sea Lord presents Yorkshire Legends Captain Mark Farrar with the Pusser's Rum Trophy

Veterans Day 2008 was held at Moortown Rugby Club in Leeds (UK) on June 1 to remember the sacrifices made by the men and women who have served their country in conflicts around the world. This year’s Veterans theme was the “Territorial Army” which is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year.

Leeds marked the day with a civic service to raise awareness of veterans and remember the dedicated service that millions of veterans have given their country. The service was attended by the Lord Mayor of Leeds and many Leeds-based veterans from across the armed forces.

The Army Rugby Team played 'Yorkshire Legends' team made up of former international rugby players and led by former International rugby play John Bentley. Pusser's Rum sponsored the match trophy and officials shirts. The Yorkshire Legends won.

The First Sea Lord, Lord Admiral Sir Jonathon Band, and Captain Mike Mansergh, Commanding Officer of HMS Ark Royal, attended. There was also a veterans parade, an RAF flypast, and music from the Band of the Royal Air Force Regiment.

The Royal Naval Association, Royal Naval Reserve, Fleet Air Arm Association, Royal British Legion, Gurkhas, the National Malaya and Borneo Veterans Association, SAAFA and many other organisations were also present.

The Lord Mayor of Leeds, Councillor Frank Robinson, said: "It is important that our veterans and their families are aware of the city's gratitude and admiration towards those who have given so much for other people across the world."
